To the Editor:

John Shaban is the only moderate candidate running for 135th District State Representative (Easton, Redding, Weston).

For the past two years his ultra-liberal opponent Anne Hughes has been co-chair of the Democrat Progressive Caucus, which promotes expensive social initiatives leading to unaffordably higher spending and taxes which our state has been saddled with for decades.

John opposes forced regionalization of schools and services and opposes expensive state mandates which undercut our town’s ability to control our spending and our destiny. And he advocates strongly for law and order to protect our towns in these turbulent times.

John served three terms in the Connecticut House of Representatives (2011 to 2017) before running for U.S. Congress. He served as ranking member of the Environment Committee, member of the Judiciary and Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committees, and as an effective supporter of bills advocating for mental health, school security, and gun control.

In 2016 John was named “Legislator of the Year” by the Connecticut Police Chiefs Association for his support of law enforcement personnel.

If you support moderate spending, keeping our towns under our own control and not state control, and protecting law and order, please vote for Republican/Independent Party candidate John Shaban.
