Snowman Sculpture

Beardsley Zoo in Bridgeport is seeking submissions to transform the zoo grounds into a Winter Wonderland with 10 one-of-a-kind snowpeople sculptures from local artists. The sculptures will be on display at the zoo from December through March and will showcase the breadth of talent in our local art community.

The theme of the Winter Art Festival is Snowmen. Design proposals will be evaluated and selected by the Exhibit Advisory Committee based on creativity, interactivity and durability for the outdoor environment. At the end of the festival, the pieces will be auctioned and proceeds raised will be used to support endangered species at the zoo.

Proposals are currently being accepted from local artists who wish to participate in this year’s public art event. Artists whose designs are selected for the exhibition will be provided with a $750 commission.

An online public vote will be held to choose a first, second, and third place winner, with cash prizes of $250, $125, and $75 respectively.

Snowman, Snowwoman, Snowchild, Snowpals, Snowpeople, Snowanimals are all encouraged. Artists are invited to go wherever their imaginations may take them.

Sculptures must fit within a 4′ x 4′ square with no height requirement. They should be able to stay on site for up to four months, capable of withstanding both adverse weather exposure and unsupervised interaction from guests at the zoo. Artists must be 18 years of age or older.

All proposals must be submitted by Thursday, Oct. 15.
