Fraud

Members of the Easton Exchange Club came to the Easton Police Department on June 25 to report multiple questionable transactions found on their bank accounts. An in-depth investigation was conducted by Detective Kent Lyman that included executions of six search warrants at financial institutions. The total projected loss to the club was approximately $17,892.80.

A warrant was applied for and granted for the arrest of Vincent Caprio, 63, of Easton. Caprio was charged on Nov. 23 and was released after posting a $50,000 court set bond. He was given a court date of Dec. 15 on charges of larceny in the second degree and payment card fraud.

DUI

Officers were dispatched to the area of Route 59 and Tersana Drive at approximately 7 p.m. Nov. 26 to respond to a reported one-car motor vehicle accident. The driver was later identified as William Heitsmith, 30, of Easton. The officer noticed Heitsmith’s speech was slurred and his eyes were glossy.

He was unable to explain how his car went off the road and crashed into a stone wall, according to the report. After failing to perform several field sobriety tests, he was placed under arrest. He was later released to the custody of his mother after posting a $100 bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 11 on charges of DUI and failure to drive right.

These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.

The Easton Police Department is located at 700 Morehouse Road, Easton, CT 06612, 203-268-4111, EastonCT.gov.
