UPDATE: According to Chief Doyle, Easton fared well. “There were no reported outages. Public Works did a great job. Traffic was light. Public Works is finishing up cleaning the roads today,” Doyle said. In short, there was nothing significant to report.
UPDATE Jan. 31, 10:40 p.m.: Town Hall (all departments), Easton Public Library, Senior Center and Park and Recreation will be closed (Monday, Feb. 1 due to inclement weather.
The Easton Police Department is preparing our area for what is likely to be a powerful storm. According to Police Chief Richard Doyle, the department is prepared with extra staff, equipment has been checked and all vehicles will be fueled.
“Our biggest concern right now is the potential for high winds which will invariably cause trees and power lines to come down,” said Doyle.
The National Weather Service is forecasting snow, mainly after 1 a.m. Monday with a low temperature around 21. Wind chill values will range between 10 and 20. The chance of precipitation is 70%.
Monday: Overnight one to three inches are possible. The snow could be heavy at times during the day with a high near 29. Blustery conditions are expected, with a northeast wind at 17 to 25 mph and gusts as high as 40 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100% with snow accumulation of eight to 12 inches possible.
Monday night: Periods of snow with a low temperature around 29 with wind chill values between 15 and 20. Windy, with a northeast wind 22 to 26 mph and gusts as high as 38 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New snow accumulation of three to seven inches is possible.
Tuesday: Light snow is likely with cloudy conditions and a high near 31. Wind chill values will be between 15 and 20. It will be blustery again with a north wind 15 to 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60% and new snow accumulation of around one inch is possible.
“I urge people to stay home for safety and so Public Works can clear the roads,” said Doyle.
