As we approach the upcoming Town Referendum on May 4, the Easton Diversity and Inclusion Task Force affirms its bipartisan support for approving the Easton Resolution on Racism and Public Health. Disparities in health outcomes for those in racial and ethnic minority groups are widespread, quantifiable, and irrefutable.
The Easton Resolution is not predicated on an assumption of pervasive racism in our community. Over twenty Connecticut towns have passed similar resolutions. Examining and addressing health inequities does not imply wrongdoing on the part of any town that passes such a resolution. Rather, these statements acknowledge the reality of racism’s multiple dimensions, its impact on all communities, and our capacity to actively respond.
The Easton Diversity and Inclusion Task Force is committed to prioritizing health, wellness, and safety for all people. The Easton Resolution on Racism and Public Health is an essential step in assuring greater equity and more consistent positive health outcomes for all.
