The Unitarian Church in Westport, which continues to offer full online services on ZOOM, is now delighted to be opening its doors once again for in-person services at 10 a.m. each Sunday. Our liberal faith community has its building in Westport, but its active congregation draws from across Fairfield County, including Easton. Known for its commitment to social justice causes and its extraordinary music led by Julliard-trained the Rev. Dr. Ed Thompson, the 450+ strong congregation is committed to inspire, connect and act to draw strength from each other and to improve the world as best we can.
The Rev. Dr. John Morehouse was called to this vibrant congregation in 2015, after serving for many years in multiple UU congregations across the country. Friends and members come from a variety of spiritual backgrounds and all are always welcome. Current members include but are not limited to folks raised in Hindu, Buddhist, Muslim, Jewish, Catholic, and Protestant traditions; many self-describe as naturalists, atheists and agnostics.
While coming from different faith backgrounds, we all share our covenant with one another: “Love is the spirit of this church, and service its law. This is our great covenant; to dwell together in peace, to seek the truth in love, and to help one another.” We are members of the Unitarian Universalist Association, uua.org, and follow its seven principles which are broad and inclusive.
