Democratic State Representative Anne Hughes announced last week that she will be running for a third term to continue representing the towns of Weston, Redding and Easton in House District 135.
âGrassroots, citizen-led action is how we protect our health, our economy, our environment, our democracy and our future,â said Hughes in a video released by her campaign.
Hughes’s campaign stated in a press release that “she is an outspoken advocate in the legislature for seniors, workers, young people and the environment. In her two terms, Hughes has championed and cosponsored dozens of laws â helping deliver comprehensive paid family medical leave and landmark legislation strengthening residents rights in long-term care settings.
“She also played a large role in securing historic relief funds, pandemic-related PPE, unemployment compensation for impacted workers and emergency resources, community challenge grants, Land Trust grants and state-recognized distinctions to protect the districtâs natural resources, public spaces, agricultural opportunities and promote local growers and farmers,” according to the press release.
“Hughes has delivered increased accountability and communication with constituents, holding public coffee hours nearly every weekend and providing regular updates on issues that affect the district,” the press release stated.
In addition to her job as a legislator serving on the Aging, Human Services and Labor and Public Employees committees of the Connecticut General Assembly, Rep. Hughes works as a licensed Master Social Worker, and as the Coordinator of the Center for Elder Abuse Prevention at Jewish Senior Services in Bridgeport.
She lives in Easton with her husband Tim.
