Discussion: Youth, Internet Habits & Mental Health

March 1, 2020 @ 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm

Free

Join us at The Unitarian Church in Westport, the Unitarian church that serves Fairfield county, as we address an important issue for our children and society. This program is open to the public, and sponsored in part by our Addictions Recovery Ministry.

Dr. Paul Weigle, a psychiatrist based in Hartford and a specialist in juvenile and adolescent issues, will explore how gaming and screen habits significantly affect physical and mental health of children, for good and bad. Come hear him lecture, and participate in a practical discussion of how to handle it all.

Computer technology has greatly increased youth engagement with online entertainment. In moderation, age-appropriate electronic media is healthy and enjoyable; in excess, it displaces needed socializing, academics, family contact, physical activity, and sleep, disposing for and exacerbating mental illness. Engagement with inappropriate content, sexting, online social comparisons, and cyberbullying put youth at particular risk.

This event is open to all; we welcome you and your friends, children, parents, teachers.
