SUMMARY:Discovered Light: The Final Photographs of Geri Gould
DESCRIPTION:Greiser’s Coffee & Market is privileged to partner with Kit Briner\, the life partner of our friend Geri Gould\, to show and exhibit of the final series of Geri’s photography\, “Discovered Light.”\nGeri Gould received her first camera at age eight from her father\, Joe DiCuffa. He was a professional portrait photographer in New York City and provided a solid foundation of training and inspiration. Her photography has been exhibited and recognized by the Easton Arts Council\, Citizens for Easton\, Black Rock Art Guild at Burroughs Community Center\, Harborview Market and Framemakers Gallery. Fellow Easton artist Robert Brennan has described Geri’s work\, “Geri Gould was an artist who happened to use a camera. Like Claude Monet and so many other painters\, Geri was on a continuous and relentless search for the light\, and in the process\, she discovered the shadows\, thus starting a visual dialogue of elegance\, intrigue\, mystery\, and poetry.”\nAfter Geri passed away in January 2023\, Robert Brennan assisted Kit Briner in curating Geri’s this exhibit\, which will be on display from May 4 through late June. All images are for sale in the store and online here. Please join us on Thursday\, May 4 at 6:30 PM for a celebration of Geri’s artwork and life. \nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n Like this:Like Loading...

SUMMARY:Conversations: Truth\, Myth & Democracy - An Evening of Discussion w/ Dr. Yuval Levin & Dr. William Galston\, Moderated by WCSU's Dr. Daniel Barrett
DESCRIPTION:The Mark Twain Library and the Redding League of Women Voters are proud to present the third installment of our series “Conversations: Truth\, Myth & Democracy” with Dr. Yuval Levin of the American Enterprise Institute (AEI) and Dr. William Galston of the Brookings Institution\, moderated by Western Connecticut State University’s Dr. Daniel Barrett. This virtual discussion is between two noted social and political thinkers who will examine the causes and consequences of a divided America and explore how a revival of some of the principles of our political tradition can contribute to solving our national challenges. \nThe Conversations series is a grassroots effort that continues to examine the underlying meaning of our democracy and how democracy matters even when we have different ideas about what it should look like. The focus is on addressing the difficult issues of truth telling and myth busting by bringing much-needed community conversations to help promote education\, informed dialogue and civil discourse. The series is brought to you in association with Easton Public Library\, Newtown’s C.H. Booth Library\, Ridgefield Library\, Weston Public Library\, The League of Women Voters of Ridgefield and the League of Women Voters of Northern Fairfield County.

SUMMARY:Lead Like A Pro - A Workshop for Youth Coaches and Parents
DESCRIPTION:Join us virtually for this unique opportunity to learn from author\, coach and athletic director\, Dr. Matthew Raidbard. With each passing year youth sports coaches are asked to take on increased leadership responsibilities for their athletes and team. However\, they don’t always have the opportunity to receive the necessary coach-related leadership education and training that would provide them with the knowledge and tools required to effectively coach the team\, manage the athletes and parents\, and deal with any unexpected conflicts or tensions that arise during the season. This talk is designed specifically for youth sport coaches to provide them with foundational leadership knowledge and teach them techniques they can use to practice the best leadership style and behaviors that align with their personal values and beliefs. \nDuring this program\, Dr. Raidbard will give an introduction to leadership practice\, and discuss the importance of coaches viewing themselves as leaders and making intentional leadership choices. He will also talk about how coaches can determine what the best leadership style and behaviors are for them to practice based on their personal values and beliefs. This program is also designed to help coaches understand the impact their leadership choices can have both positively and negatively on the athletes they coach. \nDr. Raidbard is the author of the newly released book Lead Like A Pro: Effective Leadership Styles for Athletic Coaches. In Lead Like A Pro\, he draws on over a decade spent as a college basketball coach and senior level athletics administrator\, as well as his own original research into what leadership styles and behaviors help athletic coaches be successful. This practical\, yet informative book provides coaches with the resources to transform their leadership practice and reach their full potential.

SUMMARY:Special Film Screening - Screenagers: Growing Up In A Digital Age
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a special free virtual screening of the documentary Screenagers: Growing Up in a Digital Age. Are you watching kids scroll through life\, with their rapid-fire thumbs and a six-second attention span? Physician and filmmaker Delaney Ruston saw that with her own kids and learned that the average kid spends 6.5 hours a day looking at screens. She wondered about the impact of all this time and about the friction occurring in homes and schools around negotiating screen time—friction she knew all too well. \nIn SCREENAGERS\, as with her award-winning documentaries on mental health\, Delaney takes a deeply personal approach as she probes into the vulnerable corners of family life\, including her own\, to explore struggles over social media\, video games\, academics and internet addiction. Through poignant\, and unexpectedly funny stories\, along with surprising insights from authors\, psychologists\, and brain scientists\, SCREENAGERS reveals how tech time impacts kids’ development and offers solutions on how adults can empower kids to best navigate the digital world and find balance. \nThe screening will be followed by a live Q&A with Dr. Delaney Ruston\, physician and filmmaker. \nThis evening is brought to you in partnership by the Redding Elementary School\, John Read Middle School and Joel Barlow High School PTAs\, Easton K-8 PTO and the Mark Twain Library.

SUMMARY:2021 Sip & Shop
DESCRIPTION:Wilton\, CT; November 8\, 2021– The huge outpouring of support for Sip & Shop has enabled host Janet Montalbano\, of Let’s Make Up\, to bring on a co-host this year. She is thrilled to announce her partnership with Justin Baird\, of Justin Baird Photography. Janet‘s artistic talents have worked wonders for Fairfield County residents and others for over 30 years\, making them look and feel better. Over the past decade\, she has offered her services pro-bono doing makeovers for women undergoing cancer treatments\, battered women\, and others who are trying to reestablish themselves and rejoin the workforce. Janet even received Wilton Magazine’s coveted award as one of the 25 most creative\, dedicated\, and influential people in Wilton. Her website is www.letsmakeupbyjanetmontalbano.com.\nThe 2021 Sip & Shop will charge an admission fee of $20.00/per person since Janet’s goal is to raise over $25\,000 for Circle of Care. Last year’s online event raised approximately $15\,000\, so she is hopeful that an in-person event will raise substantially more. \nIn addition\, this year’s function will be moved to a larger venue\, the WEPCO Church\, located at 48 New Canaan Road in Wilton. Vendors will pay only $200.00 per booth\, as compared to $350.00 in previous years\, since the space can accommodate so many more people. The event will be held on Thursday\, November 18\, from 10:00 a.m.– 8:00 p.m. There will be a $100.00 raffle\, wherein the participants will have a chance to win a fantastic vacation at Lake Norman in North Carolina\, one of the largest and most beautiful man-made lakes in the state\, donated by a Wilton family. Restrictions apply. There will also be a 50-50 raffle\, $20.00 for one ticket or $50.00 for three. And\, for the first time\, each visitor to Sip & Shop will receive a complimentary raffle ticket\, making them eligible for an assortment of prizes. The raffles will be held at 7:30 p.m.\nSponsors include Wilton Smiles\, “Keeping Teeth Healthy and Bright”\, AJC Contracting\, Berkshire Hathaway and Fleurish Florals (Silver\, $500)\, Keller Williams Fiona Porter (Gold\, $1000)\, and Mary Aherns – Hair for Good (Platinum\, $2\,500). The popular band of Cagi & Syd will perform well-known tunes\, and light bites and beverages will be provided by Rye Ridge Deli\, Uncle Leo’s\, Dave’s Planet Pizza\, and Susan Kane Catering. Additional food vendors will be greatly appreciated.\nThe vendors are as follows: “B” Chic\, Blue Star Bazaar\, Burkewood Road\, Emmy Star Designs\, Erin Deluca Jewelry\, Four Colors USA\, Fiona Porter Homes\, Bows By Ria\, Blue Star Bazaar\, Thread & Knot\, Four Legged and Fabulous\, Frieda Rothman\, Hair For Good\, Imaginariums\, Nancy’s Color Studio\, Nina Kalola Jewelry\, Send a Smile Cards and Gifts\, Szetheday\, Southern Yankee\, Wild Bloom Skin Care\, Wilton Smiles\, Arbonne\, Nayar’s Gifts\, Tiffany Catalano Artwork\, Your CBD Store\, and Zero Waste.\nJanet says\, “I am confident we will reach our goal this year with so many positive changes\, particularly with the addition of my talented co-sponsor\, Justin. And I know everyone wants to support our local vendors who support Circle of Care by coming to our event and donating funds for a booth to showcase their wares. There is no better way to shop for holiday gifts.”\nSo\, shop til you drop. You deserve it. All tickets will be available through Eventbrite.
