SUMMARY:Discovered Light: The Final Photographs of Geri Gould
DESCRIPTION:Greiser’s Coffee & Market is privileged to partner with Kit Briner\, the life partner of our friend Geri Gould\, to show and exhibit of the final series of Geri’s photography\, “Discovered Light.”\nGeri Gould received her first camera at age eight from her father\, Joe DiCuffa. He was a professional portrait photographer in New York City and provided a solid foundation of training and inspiration. Her photography has been exhibited and recognized by the Easton Arts Council\, Citizens for Easton\, Black Rock Art Guild at Burroughs Community Center\, Harborview Market and Framemakers Gallery. Fellow Easton artist Robert Brennan has described Geri’s work\, “Geri Gould was an artist who happened to use a camera. Like Claude Monet and so many other painters\, Geri was on a continuous and relentless search for the light\, and in the process\, she discovered the shadows\, thus starting a visual dialogue of elegance\, intrigue\, mystery\, and poetry.”\nAfter Geri passed away in January 2023\, Robert Brennan assisted Kit Briner in curating Geri’s this exhibit\, which will be on display from May 4 through late June. All images are for sale in the store and online here. Please join us on Thursday\, May 4 at 6:30 PM for a celebration of Geri’s artwork and life. \nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n Like this:Like Loading...

SUMMARY:Conversations: Truth\, Myth & Democracy - A Discussion w/ Dr. Anthea Butler & Dr. Daniel Barrett
DESCRIPTION:The Mark Twain Library and the Redding League of Women Voters are proud to present the fourth installment of our series “Conversations: Truth\, Myth & Democracy.” In this program\, Dr. Anthea Butler\, Associate Professor of Religious Studies and Africana Studies at the University of Pennsylvania will be in conversation with Psychology Professor Dr. Daniel Barrett of Western Connecticut State University. In her recently published book\, White Evangelical Racism: The Politics of Morality in America\, Dr. Butler outlined how inherent racism has been constant in white evangelical religion throughout America’s history. We held a program in December to discuss the book and now are proud to be able to offer this virtual conversation with Dr. Butler herself to further examine what the noted historian and theologian has discovered from her research. \nThe Conversations series is a grassroots effort that continues to examine the underlying meaning of our democracy and how democracy matters even when we have different ideas about what it should look like. The focus is on addressing the difficult issues of truth telling and myth busting by bringing much-needed community conversations to help promote education\, informed dialogue and civil discourse. The series is brought to you in association with Easton Public Library\, Newtown’s C.H. Booth Library\, Ridgefield Library\, Weston Public Library\, The League of Women Voters of Ridgefield\, The League of Women Voters of Weston\, and the League of Women Voters of Northern Fairfield County.

SUMMARY:Conversations: Truth\, Myth & Democracy - An Evening of Discussion w/ Dr. Peter Coleman & Dr. Averell Manes
DESCRIPTION:The Mark Twain Library and the Redding League of Women Voters are proud to present the fifth installment of our series “Conversations: Truth\, Myth & Democracy.” In this program\, two experts on conflict resolution will be in a virtual discussion to offer insights into how deeply divided societies can\, and in fact do\, change. Dr. Peter Coleman is a Professor of Psychology and Education at Columbia University who studies polarizing\, intractable conflict and sustainable peace and has recently published a book\, The Way Out: How to Overcome Toxic Polarization which addresses this exact topic. Dr. R. Averell Manes is a Professor Emeritus of Political Science\, Conflict Resolution and Peace Studies at Western Connecticut State University (WCSU). \nLater this month we offer another Conversations program that complements this one as we will be analyzing three different works by noted scholars to better understand and address civic turmoil and political upheaval. One of those works is a TED Talk by Dr. Coleman. That virtual program is scheduled for March 22 @ 7:30pm\, click HERE to register.

This past year we’ve provided a number of museum passes for families to access throughout the year; supported the Summer Reading program and the One Book One Town initiative; and paid for the refurbishment of the outdoor back patio\, complete with furniture and umbrellas and – soon to come – attractive landscaping. We are always open to suggestions for how to enhance our gem of a library with our contributions. \nWe welcome volunteers and encourage townspeople to become members of our group.
