SUMMARY:2021 Sip & Shop
DESCRIPTION:Wilton\, CT; November 8\, 2021– The huge outpouring of support for Sip & Shop has enabled host Janet Montalbano\, of Let’s Make Up\, to bring on a co-host this year. She is thrilled to announce her partnership with Justin Baird\, of Justin Baird Photography. Janet‘s artistic talents have worked wonders for Fairfield County residents and others for over 30 years\, making them look and feel better. Over the past decade\, she has offered her services pro-bono doing makeovers for women undergoing cancer treatments\, battered women\, and others who are trying to reestablish themselves and rejoin the workforce. Janet even received Wilton Magazine’s coveted award as one of the 25 most creative\, dedicated\, and influential people in Wilton. Her website is www.letsmakeupbyjanetmontalbano.com.\nThe 2021 Sip & Shop will charge an admission fee of $20.00/per person since Janet’s goal is to raise over $25\,000 for Circle of Care. Last year’s online event raised approximately $15\,000\, so she is hopeful that an in-person event will raise substantially more. \nIn addition\, this year’s function will be moved to a larger venue\, the WEPCO Church\, located at 48 New Canaan Road in Wilton. Vendors will pay only $200.00 per booth\, as compared to $350.00 in previous years\, since the space can accommodate so many more people. The event will be held on Thursday\, November 18\, from 10:00 a.m.– 8:00 p.m. There will be a $100.00 raffle\, wherein the participants will have a chance to win a fantastic vacation at Lake Norman in North Carolina\, one of the largest and most beautiful man-made lakes in the state\, donated by a Wilton family. Restrictions apply. There will also be a 50-50 raffle\, $20.00 for one ticket or $50.00 for three. And\, for the first time\, each visitor to Sip & Shop will receive a complimentary raffle ticket\, making them eligible for an assortment of prizes. The raffles will be held at 7:30 p.m.\nSponsors include Wilton Smiles\, “Keeping Teeth Healthy and Bright”\, AJC Contracting\, Berkshire Hathaway and Fleurish Florals (Silver\, $500)\, Keller Williams Fiona Porter (Gold\, $1000)\, and Mary Aherns – Hair for Good (Platinum\, $2\,500). The popular band of Cagi & Syd will perform well-known tunes\, and light bites and beverages will be provided by Rye Ridge Deli\, Uncle Leo’s\, Dave’s Planet Pizza\, and Susan Kane Catering. Additional food vendors will be greatly appreciated.\nThe vendors are as follows: “B” Chic\, Blue Star Bazaar\, Burkewood Road\, Emmy Star Designs\, Erin Deluca Jewelry\, Four Colors USA\, Fiona Porter Homes\, Bows By Ria\, Blue Star Bazaar\, Thread & Knot\, Four Legged and Fabulous\, Frieda Rothman\, Hair For Good\, Imaginariums\, Nancy’s Color Studio\, Nina Kalola Jewelry\, Send a Smile Cards and Gifts\, Szetheday\, Southern Yankee\, Wild Bloom Skin Care\, Wilton Smiles\, Arbonne\, Nayar’s Gifts\, Tiffany Catalano Artwork\, Your CBD Store\, and Zero Waste.\nJanet says\, “I am confident we will reach our goal this year with so many positive changes\, particularly with the addition of my talented co-sponsor\, Justin. And I know everyone wants to support our local vendors who support Circle of Care by coming to our event and donating funds for a booth to showcase their wares. There is no better way to shop for holiday gifts.”\nSo\, shop til you drop. You deserve it. All tickets will be available through Eventbrite. Though Butler’s full book is open for consideration\, our discussion will also focus on the following discussions: \nFrom Words to Works: Dismantling Racism – A Yale Divinity School Panel Discussion (1;26) January 18\, 2020\, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ie2F2S-2zG4\nPodcast – Origins of the Black Church: Enslavement Through Emancipation with Dr. Anthea Butler. SUMMARY:Conversations: Truth\, Myth & Democracy - A Discussion w/ Dr. Anthea Butler & Dr. Daniel Barrett
DESCRIPTION:The Mark Twain Library and the Redding League of Women Voters are proud to present the fourth installment of our series “Conversations: Truth\, Myth & Democracy.” In this program\, Dr. Anthea Butler\, Associate Professor of Religious Studies and Africana Studies at the University of Pennsylvania will be in conversation with Psychology Professor Dr. Daniel Barrett of Western Connecticut State University. In her recently published book\, White Evangelical Racism: The Politics of Morality in America\, Dr. Butler outlined how inherent racism has been constant in white evangelical religion throughout America’s history. We held a program in December to discuss the book and now are proud to be able to offer this virtual conversation with Dr. Butler herself to further examine what the noted historian and theologian has discovered from her research. \nThe Conversations series is a grassroots effort that continues to examine the underlying meaning of our democracy and how democracy matters even when we have different ideas about what it should look like. The focus is on addressing the difficult issues of truth telling and myth busting by bringing much-needed community conversations to help promote education\, informed dialogue and civil discourse. The series is brought to you in association with Easton Public Library\, Newtown’s C.H. Booth Library\, Ridgefield Library\, Weston Public Library\, The League of Women Voters of Ridgefield\, The League of Women Voters of Weston\, and the League of Women Voters of Northern Fairfield County. \nShare this:\n Share on Facebook (Opens in new window)\n Facebook\n \n Share on X (Opens in new window)\n X\n \n Share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)\n LinkedIn\n \n Share on Reddit (Opens in new window)\n Reddit\n \n Email a link to a friend (Opens in new window)\n Email\n \n Share on Pinterest (Opens in new window)\n Pinterest\n Like this:Like Loading...

SUMMARY:Conversations: Truth\, Myth & Democracy - An Evening of Discussion w/ Dr. Peter Coleman & Dr. Averell Manes
DESCRIPTION:The Mark Twain Library and the Redding League of Women Voters are proud to present the fifth installment of our series “Conversations: Truth\, Myth & Democracy.” In this program\, two experts on conflict resolution will be in a virtual discussion to offer insights into how deeply divided societies can\, and in fact do\, change. Dr. R. Averell Manes is a Professor Emeritus of Political Science\, Conflict Resolution and Peace Studies at Western Connecticut State University (WCSU). \nLater this month we offer another Conversations program that complements this one as we will be analyzing three different works by noted scholars to better understand and address civic turmoil and political upheaval. One of those works is a TED Talk by Dr. Coleman. That virtual program is scheduled for March 22 @ 7:30pm\, click HERE to register.
