Easton Republicans Nominate Town Committee Members at Caucus

Easton Republicans nominated 30 members to the Easton Republican Town Committee for 2024-26 during their Jan. 11 caucus at the Easton Senior Center. That’s the maximum number of members the bylaws allow, according to Wendy Bowditch, ERTC chair.

The new ERTC will take office on March 5 and includes 10 new members. Some previous members voluntarily resigned before the caucus, Bowditch said. In addition to the full members, the committee can name up to 10 associate members and also have emeritus members. 

“Everyone who wanted to be an ERTC member had to fill out an application,” Bowditch said. “We had 30 people who filled out an application, and they were all accepted.”

Bowditch said she is leaning toward giving someone else a chance to chair the ERTC but has not yet decided for sure whether or not she will seek reelection.

“We will name associates and emeritus after March 5,” Bowditch said. “We will elect new officers at our March 28 meeting, which falls in the window that State Central has given us in which to comply.”

The town committee introduced some of the new members and discussed the future during its Jan. 25 meeting, Bowditch said. The primary goal is to elect Republicans, which she described as “an uphill battle for Republicans in Connecticut.” The ERTC will support Republicans for state and national offices in 2024 and closely monitor the upcoming state legislative session which starts Feb. 7. The ERTC will encourage Republicans to testify online, a process that became more convenient in recent years, Bowditch said.

The ERTC meets on the fourth Thursday of each month. ERTC members are expected to attend meetings, serve on ERTC committees, participate in events and provide financial support to the organization, according to the Easton Republican Town Committee website, https://www.eastonrtc.org/.
