To be eligible to vote in any primary, you have to be a registered voter in the specific political party. Changing your affiliation from one major party to another comes with a three-month waiting period. The deadline to change your affiliation for the April 2 primary has already passed.

Unaffiliated voters who want to vote during the early voting period before a primary may do so if their enrollment application to change to a major party is filed with the Registrar of Voters by noon on the business day immediately before the day when early voting begins.

Individuals who are not registered but want to register and enroll in a political party, and then vote during early voting before a primary, may do so if their voter registration application is filed with the Registrar of Voters by noon on the business day immediately before the day when they want to vote.

You can check your voter status at the Secretary of State’s website: https://voterregistration.ct.gov/OLVR

In addition, there will be an in-person enrollment session for the Presidential Preference Primary on Friday, March 15 between 12 noon and 2 p.m. at Town Hall.
