Sen. Tony Hwang to Host Press Conference on Roadway Safety Initiatives

State Sen. Tony Hwang will hold a press conference Monday, Aug. 4, at 10 a.m. to brief the public on several new roadway and pedestrian safety measures being implemented across Connecticut.

The event will take place at the Merritt Parkway Exit 44 Park & Ride (East Lot), located at the intersection of Route 15 and Route 58, 3870 Black Rock Turnpike in Fairfield.

As the ranking member of the General Assembly’s Transportation Committee, Hwang will be joined by a representative from the Connecticut State Police to discuss a range of safety updates affecting residents and commuters. These include the state’s transition to mileage-based exit numbers on the Merritt Parkway, activation of a new wrong-way driver detection system on I-95 northbound at Exit 23, and enhanced enforcement against improper use of the left passing lane, commonly known as “left lane camping.”

Additional topics include updates on evolving e-bike regulations and ongoing efforts to improve pedestrian safety, particularly for vulnerable road users. The initiatives are part of a broader push to modernize the state’s roadways and reduce accidents through infrastructure improvements and increased public awareness.

Interview opportunities and press packets will be available at the event.
