Residents and community organizations will honor local veterans this Veterans Day, from flying flags in memory of fallen heroes to running a 5K that raises funds for veterans in need.

Easton will honor veterans Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. at Stepney Green in Monroe. American Legion posts from Easton and Monroe will jointly conduct the ceremony. Donald Rodgerson, commander of Easton’s Charles L. Ruman Post 160, will officiate, and Victor Yanosy, commander of Monroe’s Sippin-Winspur Post 176, will help lead the ceremony.
The Easton Senior Center will be hosting its annual Veterans Day breakfast on Monday, Nov. 10, at 9 a.m., followed by a concert at 10 a.m. Registration is required for the breakfast by calling 203-268-1145.
The annual Fairfield Veterans Day Ceremony, which is sponsored by American Legion Posts 143 and 74, will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 11, at 11 a.m. near the Veterans Wall of Honor on the Town Green, 611 Old Post Road.
Support for veterans can also be shown by sponsoring a flag for the Kiwanis Club of Fairfield’s Field of Valor. The annual tribute to veterans and active-duty service members features more than 350 full-size American flags that will fly for two weeks surrounding Veterans Day. Each flag may be dedicated in honor or memory of a veteran or service member, with the honoree’s name displayed on a yellow card attached to the flag. You can purchase a flag by registering online on the Kiwanis website. Proceeds benefit Homes for the Brave in Bridgeport, a nonprofit that provides housing, job training, and support services to unhoused Veterans. Flags may be picked up after the display or donated for future years.
Homes for the Brave will host its fourth annual “Honor Our Veterans” 5K Family Run/Walk at Sherwood Island State Park in Westport on Tuesday, Nov. 11. Registration opens at 8 a.m., and the event begins at 9 a.m. The $35 entry fee includes a race-day T-shirt, with all proceeds going to programs that help Connecticut veterans experiencing homelessness.
