All are invited to join the Easton Community Celebration of Juneteenth on Saturday, June 19th from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Morehouse Fields and Pavilion.
Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day, is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865 – two-and-a-half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation –Major General Gordon Granger and Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas with news that all those who had been enslaved were free.
Bring your own picnic and refreshments, blanket or lawn chair. Enjoy uplifting music and learning more about our national heritage as we celebrate freedom.
This Juneteenth Celebration is hosted by the Easton Diversity and Inclusion Task Force.
