Extreme Heat Warning in Effect Through Tuesday

The National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Warning for the Easton area from noon Sunday through 8 p.m. Tuesday, with dangerously high temperatures and humidity expected to push the heat index up to 110 degrees.

The warning covers southern Connecticut, northeast New Jersey, and southeast New York. The hottest periods are expected during the afternoon hours on Monday and Tuesday.

Health and Safety Risks

Such extreme heat significantly increases the risk of heat-related illnesses, especially for seniors, individuals with chronic health conditions, and those working or exercising outdoors.

Homes without air conditioning can become especially dangerous, often exceeding outdoor temperatures. Residents are urged to stay indoors in air-conditioned spaces as much as possible. If you do not have air-conditioner, seek out cool public places — such as libraries or designated cooling centers — and check on vulnerable neighbors, friends or relatives.

If You Must Be Outdoors

If you need to be outside for work or other activities:

  • Reschedule strenuous tasks for early morning or evening hours.
  • Drink lots of water, even if you aren’t thirsty.
  • Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing.
  • Take breaks in shade or air-conditioned spaces.

Know the Signs

Watch for signs of heat exhaustion (dizziness, headache, nausea, or heavy sweating) and heat stroke (confusion, fainting, dry skin, or a rapid pulse). Heat stroke is a medical emergency. Call 911 immediately if you suspect it.

Stay Informed

This warning remains in effect through Tuesday at 8 p.m. Continue to monitor local forecasts, stay hydrated, stay inside and look after those who may be at greater risk.
