For more than three years, the town of Easton and other Connecticut communities have supported their Ukrainian sister cities amid Russia’s war on Ukraine, providing critical aid ranging from electric generators and trucks to drinking water, heating fuel and frontline medical supplies.
Those efforts, coordinated through Ukraine Aid International, continue to make a tangible impact in cities such as Sviatohirsk, Easton’s sister city in eastern Ukraine.
A new six-minute video update released by Ukraine Aid International offers a firsthand look at the ongoing relief work. The update is narrated by Marshall Mayer, a Westport native and the organization’s co-founder and executive director, and highlights assistance provided by six Connecticut municipalities.
The video shows water filtration systems installed to provide safe drinking water, the production of wood pellets to help residents heat their homes, and the delivery of drone detectors and medical supplies to frontline areas. It also includes footage from a 2023 visit to Sviatohirsk by former Easton First Selectman Dave Bindelglass, who was welcomed by local officials and residents.
Ukraine Aid International has played a central role in sustaining these sister-city partnerships, enabling U.S. communities to deliver targeted humanitarian assistance as the war enters its fourth year.
Support for the relief effort is ongoing. Donations designated for the “Easton Sister City” initiative can be sent to Ukraine Aid International, 298 Fairview Ave., Fairfield, CT 06824, or made via Venmo at @UkraineAidInternational.
