To the Editor:
Our first responders — the brave men and women of Easton’s Emergency Medical Services — are at the heart of our community. For generations, they have been there for us during emergencies, providing care and saving lives. Now, it’s our turn to be there for them. I urge all Easton residents to come together to support the renovation of our EMS headquarters by attending the upcoming Town Meeting Monday night, and, more importantly, by voting YES at the Feb. 11 referendum at Samuel Staples Elementary School.
This referendum is not a spur-of-the-moment decision. It’s the result of years of hard work, collaboration, and dedication by countless community volunteers, first responders, town leaders, and citizens like you. Through countless hours of planning, fundraising, grant applications, and meetings, we have shaped a responsible, thoughtful plan for the future of Easton’s EMS. This process has been thorough, transparent and grounded in our town’s democratic principles. The referendum provides us all an opportunity to voice our opinions and make sure that Easton’s EMS remain top-tier for years to come.
I know first-hand, that municipal projects of this scale take time, and the process can sometimes feel slow. But this is precisely why it’s so important that we all stay engaged. Through the referendum process, we ensure that decisions are made in a transparent and community-driven way, reflecting the values and priorities of our town. This EMS renovation isn’t just about building a new facility — it’s about affirming our commitment to responsible governance, forward-thinking planning and support for the critical services that keep us safe.
The resources available through state funding prioritize small towns like ours. These grants are designed to help communities that are proactive in raising the necessary funds for capital projects. With federal funding uncertain in today’s climate, it’s essential that we demonstrate our resourcefulness and commitment to supporting Easton’s first responders — both now and in the future. Our EMS has already proven itself to be a responsible and effective provider of high-quality, professional care, not only for Easton but also for neighboring towns with which we provide mutual aid.
This headquarters renovation will ensure that Easton EMS continues to meet the demands of our growing community and the challenges that come with serving a broader regional area. This building will house the next generation of first responders, equipping them with the resources they need to do their jobs effectively, safely and efficiently.
Let’s honor the long legacy of Easton EMS, which has served us for over a century, by investing in its future. The time has come for us to resoundingly affirm our support for the hardworking men and women who are always there when we need them most. I ask that you join me in voting YES for the EMS headquarters renovation on Feb. 11. Together, we can ensure that Easton remains a community that values the safety, well-being, and legacy of its citizens for generations to come.
