Thank you, Easton.
Our Library Giving Day fundraiser was a huge success this year, and the Friends have already started to put these funds to good use. We have allocated funds to the library’s Youth Services area to purchase new sets of board books and VOX books, plus equipment and supplies for the library’s Innovation Space, a maker space that supports STEM learning. Because of Easton’s generosity, our kids are getting this well-deserved support.
Coffee and Tea
The Friends are always open to ideas about how we can be useful to the community. Please send us your suggestions. Better yet, come to our next scheduled meeting in the community room on June 26 at 7 p.m. and become part of our planning process.Â
Craft Beer Tasting Event
Save the Date: Thursday, June 27, 6 to 8 p.m. in the lower lot next to Greiser’s Coffee & Market.
Our former wine and cheese tastings were very popular community-building events and we’ve heard that folks miss them. This year we’re going to try something a little different: a beer tasting that spotlights Connecticut’s best craft brews. The Friends will host this event; Greiser’s will cater it. Jeff Foster, former professional brewmaster, will curate the tasting, and Easton band Birdsey Beers will provide entertainment. Stay tuned for more details.
Other Upcoming Events — Mark Your Calendars
Our annual used book sale is scheduled for the last weekend in September. We will be starting to accept donations at the library as of Monday, July 8, and the Friends will be looking for help in sorting after donations start coming in.
The annual Holiday Tree-Lighting and related festivities will be held on Dec. 8.
There are tentative plans to sponsor another competition in January, similar to the gingerbread house competition this past December. We are contemplating holding an edible book competition. An edible book is food that can look like a book, be a pun on a book title, refer to a book character, anything to do with books as long as it’s edible. Let us know what you think about this idea, and let us know if you have other suggestions.
