Phoebe Merrill, a recent Joel Barlow High School graduate, was awarded a $2,000 four-year scholarship by the Wednesday Afternoon Musical Club.

The scholarship is presented to a student entering an accredited four-year college program majoring in musical performance or music education.
Merrill plans to attend Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee where she will study music performance, songwriting, music education and music business. She has performed locally at the Greiser’s Summer Concert series and the Audubon Society. She also performed at the Barlow graduation.
“We are thrilled to be able to help support this gifted young musician in the pursuit of her musical goals,” said Joanne Kant, Wednesday Afternoon Musical Club’s president. “Phoebe writes and performs her own music with thoughtful lyrics that reflect the stories of her own life and imagined ones.”

The Wednesday Afternoon Musical Club was incorporated in 1898 and has served the greater Bridgeport area with musical performances and scholarship awards ever since then. It recently moved its primary performing space to Jesse Lee United Methodist Church in Easton.
The next concert will be held Sunday, Nov. 10 at 3 p.m. at Jesse Lee. For more information visit Jesse Lee United Methodist Church of Easton’s website, http://www.jesselee.org.
