Ukraine Aid International (UAI) will be hosting a holiday celebration to support Ukrainian sister cities programs that formed throughout Fairfield County two years ago after the Russian invasion.

UAI, a Westport-based nonprofit humanitarian organization, has been partnering with seven towns across Fairfield County since 2022 to support Ukrainians living near the front lines of the war in Ukraine. Sister city programs were established in Easton, Stamford, Greenwich, Westport, Fairfield, Ridgefield and Weston.

“With the support of generous donors across Connecticut, UAI has provided sustainable, ongoing aid to more than 300,000 Ukrainians living in these red zones, and your continued support will help hundreds of thousands more in the coming year,” said Katya Wauchope, president of Ukraine Aid International.

Wauchope said the holiday celebration is a time to gather with Connecticut neighbors to honor and support the resilience of their friends in Ukraine. The event will be held on Sunday, Dec. 8, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Redline Restorations, located at 2475 Fairfield Avenue in Black Rock. The event is free entry, families are welcome, and food and drink will be provided along with a silent auction donated by local vendors. Guests can also view a display of restored classic cars. All money raised during the event will benefit the UAI’s mission of keeping Ukraine a free and independent nation. To RSVP for the holiday event visit UAI’s website.

Easton’s sister city program with Sviatohirsk has provided support and funds to help restore and rebuild the war-torn city in the Donetsk Oblast region. Through various events and fundraisers Easton residents were able to purchase and deliver a dump truck and water filtration system for Sviatohirsk.

Marshall Mayer, the co-founder and executive director of the UAI, expressed his gratitude for the community’s role in these efforts.

“Thanks to the generosity of Fairfield County residents, we have been able to deliver lifesaving support to hundreds of thousands of Ukrainians who face unimaginable hardships every day,” said Mayer. “Your kindness is making an incredible difference.”
