The Easton Lions, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, honosr the legacy of former Easton resident Helen Keller by funding charities that benefit people with vision impairment. Keller was the first deaf and blind person to earn a bachelor’s degree in the United States. She went on to champion human rights as an activist and was a founder of the American Civil Liberties Union.

June 27 was proclaimed Helen Keller Day, a commemorative holiday, by presidential decree in 2006. The Lions Club International have been celebrating Helen Keller Day since 1971. This year marks the 145th anniversary of her birth.
