The Town of Easton’s Emergency Management Team joined communities across Connecticut in the State Emergency Planning and Preparedness Exercise on Tuesday, Sept. 9.

This year’s drill simulated a large wildfire in Easton during a period of severe drought, testing the town’s ability to respond to both fire and public health impacts.

Participants included First Selectman David Bindelglass, town administrative staff, the Department of Public Works, Aspetuck Health District, police, fire, and EMS. The exercise was conducted in the town’s new Emergency Operations Center, located at the fire department. The center was made possible through a $10,000 donation from the Easton Volunteer Fire Department.

“This was a great opportunity to bring the leadership of the Town and our first responders together to focus on how we can provide the highest level of response to our community in times of emergency,” Emergency Management Director Schuyler Sherwood stated in a press release.

Town officials said the exercise reflects Easton’s ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation among departments and improve preparedness for large-scale emergencies.
