As the holiday season continues in the United States, residents of Easton’s sister city, Sviatohirsk, Ukraine, are facing ongoing hardship amid the war, according to Ukraine Aid International.
While families in the U.S. have gathered to celebrate with food, friends and seasonal traditions, many communities in eastern Ukraine are struggling with shortages of heat and safe drinking water during bitter winter conditions, the organization said.
Despite the challenges, residents of Sviatohirsk remain resilient and hopeful, Ukraine Aid International said in its end-of-year appeal. The nonprofit is seeking final donations for 2025 to help provide generators, tools and other supplies needed to repair damaged infrastructure and support daily life in the city.
“Generators, tools to repair damaged infrastructure and so much more cost money,” the organization said, urging supporters to contribute before the end of the year to assist the sister city.
Donations may be sent by check to Ukraine Aid International, 298 Fairview Ave., Fairfield, CT 06824. Contributions can also be made via Venmo at @UkraineAidInternational. Donors are asked to designate “Easton Sister City.”
