The exhibition features oil paintings that explore rural landscapes through a gestural style that blends realism with abstraction. Johnson often works with a palette knife, emphasizing texture and emotional expression. The Family Farm series was inspired by the character and beauty of agricultural settings and was created both en plein air and from photographs in her Middletown studio.

In addition to painting, Johnson works in ceramics, fused glass and mosaics. Her ceramics were produced at Wesleyan Potters in Middletown, fused glass pieces at RiverFire Glass in Deep River, and mosaics at Gallery53 in Meriden. She credits fellow artist Bivenne Staiger with providing guidance and support throughout her artistic development.

Johnson holds a bachelor of fine arts degree in painting from the Hartford Art School. Following careers in journalism and college teaching, she continues to pursue her artistic practice, drawing inspiration from Michelangelo’s phrase “Ancora Imparo,” meaning “I am still learning.”

Her work has been exhibited in galleries throughout Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York, as well as at regional art fairs.

Family Farm will be on display at the Easton Public Library through Feb. 16
