The pandemic has placed a great deal of stress on everyone, especially children. Many have a spent the better part of a year away from their classrooms, teachers and friends and they may be dealing with mental health issues as a result.
On Thursday, April 8 at 7 p.m., State Rep. Anne Hughes will be co-hosting a virtual event with her legislative colleagues Lucy Dathan and Stephanie Thomas. They have invited experts from their local and state communities who can help parents find mental health resources for their children.
Reports by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention show an increase in the number of hospital emergency room visits by children seeking mental health-related services during the pandemic.
The panel will engage in a conversation with parents to help them:
- determine if their child needs to seek help from a mental health professional
- how to recognize and resolve a mental health crisis
- how to navigate the services available to them, including mental health care, outpatient services, insurance coverage, school accommodations and more.
