A Message from First Selectman Bindelglass

Updated 4/23/21

Good afternoon,

Hopefully, we have seen the last of the chilly weather as our trees and flowers begin to bloom and show their beauty for all to see. Below is a message regarding the Easton Garden Club’s Garden Mart 2021.

Each year the Easton Garden Club looks forward to serving our Easton community…

Garden Mart is a tradition at the Easton Garden Club. Due to ongoing concerns about the pandemic, we have decided not to hold our in-person market this year. Instead, we will continue the tradition with an online only plant sale with curbside pickup at the Easton Public Library courtyard on Saturday, May 8, 2021. We are spotlighting one of our favorite local neighbors and his certified organic herbs – Sal Gilbertie of Gilbertie’s Organics. We are also highlighting our Easton Pollinator Pathway Project by selling hard to find locally grown and harvested native ecotype plant seeds in the form of “seed truffles” to help you attract pollinators to your gardens and planters. On-line ordering: pre-order by May 1, 2021, and pick up on May 8th!

The COVID-19 per 100,000 case rate has dropped to 15.2 for the two weeks ending April 17, 2021. That is clearly good news. The governor has issued an extensive new Executive Order, with the most important milestone being on May 19, 2021, when many aspects of our lives will return to near normal. If things stay the same, boards and commissions will most likely begin meeting in person after that date.  We will be discussing re-opening and resuming services and programs at all town buildings.

On Monday, April 26,2021, we will be holding the Annual Town Meeting at SSES in the cafetorium at 7 p.m. Attendance will be limited to 80 people in person. The agenda and Zoom link can be viewed here.  We ask that only those intending to speak, attend in person. The items for discussion are the budget for the Town of Easton and the Region 9, funding for two bridge designs, and the Resolution on Racism and Public Health. Information on all three questions can be found on the town website; www.eastonct.gov The two budgets and the resolution will be adjourned to a machine vote to be held on May 4, 2021, at SSES from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.  Information about voting by absentee ballot can be found on the website as well. I encourage you to learn about the issues and come out to vote.

Some residents have commented on the line detailing on several roads in town. Road striping is funded by the Police Department and an outside vendor is used. There is a schedule coordinated with Public Works to stripe over the course of multiple years. In compliance with federal standards, all new road striping must be double yellow lines for safety issues. This may not be small town ascetics; however, safety is of utmost importance.

Most of you have received your revaluation forms, please check the accuracy of the information on the form and follow the directions on the form to return to Munival as soon as possible. As discussed at last night’s Board of Selectmen meeting, I am committed to having a Memorial Day Parade. We are working on how best and safely we can implement this time-honored tradition. It is great to see our fields busy again with spring sports starting up. The Morehouse Restrooms are open and functioning. I urge all Easton residents to be mindful of disposing of PPE and any other garbage at the fields. We want to keep the area as pristine as possible.

Please continue to be mindful of public safety, including masks and social distancing as we begin to gather outside in the warmer weather. More folks have been fully vaccinated, however, the need for our precautions should still be in place. It is my sincere hope that we can finish the school year with no further disruptions and that requires continued caution and diligence from all of us.

Have a great weekend!

Dave Bindelglass
