Friends of the Easton Public Library Used Book Sale

The Friends of the Easton Public Library are pleased to announce they are sponsoring a Used Book Sale on Saturday October 2, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. AND Sunday, Oct. 3, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.at the Easton Public Library, 691 Morehouse Road in Easton. All proceeds will go to supporting the library and its needs for the year.

It has been a few years since such an event has been offered to the town, so the team is optimistic about having a good turn-out. The sales will feature books of all genres, for all ages — from board and picture books to coffee table display books, and both soft-and hard cover volumes. Also available will be CDs, DVDs, and audiobooks.

“I always consider library book sales terrific occasions for us all,” said Beth Cliff, a leader of the refreshed Friends group which restarted last spring. “We all get wonderful books at superb prices, we recycle literary gems and so do our bit for the environment, and we financially support the library. In my mind, you can never overspend at a library used book sale! .. And then there is all the behind-the-scenes team-building.

“Our Friends group is great because none of us are linked to any one school, neighborhood, faith community, demographic group, political persuasion or tenure in town. We all just come together to work side-by-side, have some fun, get to know folks we haven’t had an occasion to meet before, and support the library, which is such a treasure for everyone in town.”

The project, led in large part by long-time Eastonite Phyllis Machledt, has brought townspeople together as they sort and organize a great number of donations from across the town and beyond. Several local charities have reached out to volunteer time and effort as well, working hand in hand with the library staff and Friends’ volunteers.

Donations will be accepted until Thursday, Sept. 30. Folks can drop off their books at the library during its normal business hours. Please, only materials in good condition — if they’re too bruised for your home they are too bruised for others’! No magazines, or encyclopedias. And if you want to help us out — either in preparation for the sale, or on sale day itself — please let us know at friends@eastonlibrary.org. We’d love your help.

As always, we welcome new members to our Friends group: you can support our team – and hence, the library — by signing up as a Friend: there are multiple levels from “Buddy” at $20 to BFF at $90+. All gifts are tax-deductible and all proceeds go to the Library. Volunteers who work on various projects through-out the year are also welcome. To become a member or sign up as a volunteer for future events, go to our website www.eastonlibraryfriends.org.

See you on Saturday, Oct. 2!
