Easton Police on Aug. 21 said they responded to a call of a dead sheep in the river near South Park Avenue and Buck Hill Road.

An investigation conducted by Easton Police along with the state Department of Agriculture and the State of CT DEEP determined that the animal was an adult male ram, which had been professionally butchered elsewhere and dumped at the site, according to a police department press release.

The officers who arrived at the scene also observed a burnt out candle and some sort of white powder poured on the ground in a rectangular pattern about 15 feet away from the scene, according to the release.

Police said they closed the investigation.
