The Connecticut PTA has recognized ER9 Superintendent Dr. Jason McKinnon as Outstanding Superintendent for its 2023 Outstanding Educator.

The recognition was given by the nonprofit association made up of board members and advisors that advocates for a strong public education system. The association has no affiliation with any school, PTA or individual nominated.

“When PTA members are looking at qualities that would make an outstanding superintendent they look for a partner and supporter of all the groups that encompass the district community, how he/she acts as a mentor and leader and involves the children in his/her efforts,” said Annie Baldarelli with the association. “Some things that distinguish a person is how creative they are and how expansive and inclusive they are in their efforts.”

Baldarelli said McKinnon’s views as a global thinker, his detail oriented and good planing methods, use of technology and personal communication, and his visibility and focus on children/students to advance and improve learning at all levels played a role in his selection for the recognition.

Dr. Stephanie Pierson Ugol, ER9’s assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction, congratulated McKinnon on his “well-deserved recognition.”

“Dr. McKinnon, our energetic and visionary superintendent, has made a remarkable, positive impact on the ER9 districts in his year-and-a-half of district leadership. His clear and forward-thinking approach to communication, goal-setting, and long-range strategic planning creates a bright future outlook for students, staff, and families in our communities. This well-deserved recognition is a celebration of excellence in leadership. We are grateful and proud that Dr. McKinnon is our superintendent,” said Pierson Ugol in a press release.

The association also named Nora Gaydos, a John Read Middle School teacher, as Outstanding Middle School Educator, and Redding Elementary School Para Professional Shannon Cormier as Outstanding Para Professional.

“Our districts are proud of the honorees and are grateful for their contributions to the Easton, Redding, and Region 9 school communities,” said Pierson Ugol.
