Springtime is in full bloom and so are the programs at Easton Public Library. There are a variety of events for all ages to enjoy.

Adult Programs

On May 5, at 2 p.m., Melissa Newman, daughter of Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, will be talking about her new book Head Over Heels: Joanne Woodward & Paul Newman: A Love Affair in Words and Pictures. She will have books available for purchase and signing.

The Red Cross will be hosting a blood drive at the Library on Friday, May 9 from 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Go to redcrossblood.org to make your appointment.

If you’re a Scrabble fan, you’re in luck. The monthly Scrabble program is back and will meet on Sunday, May 12 from 6: to 9:30 p.m. Players of all levels are welcome. Bring your own Scrabble game. For more information, contact Carl Twickler at 203-268-7126, or via email at carl.twickler@gmail.com.

Celebrate the artwork of Cara Forgione at a reception honoring her Colorful Horizons: A Textured View exhibit on May 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. The exhibit will be in the Conference Room and the Small Glass Case through June 30.

Our long-running book discussion groups meet on the second and third Thursdays of every month. Year of Wonders is our Historical Fiction group, which meets on May 9 at 10:30 a.m. Lone Women, by Victor LaValle, is the May Book. Beyond Reading covers all genres, but its main focus is fiction. The book for the May 16, 7 p.m. discussion is One Hundred Years of Lenni & Margot, by Marianne Cronin. Books are available at the Library Circulation Desk. New members are always welcome.

Children’s Programs

For the younger set, we have our regular little ones programs, including Toddler Be-Bop (walkers-age 3), which meets Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m., Babies Boogie (birth-walkers) on Wednesdays at 11:15 am; Preschool Story Time (ages 3-5) on Thursdays at 2:15 p.m.; and Preschool Play (Ages 3-5) on Wednesday, May 29 at 11:30 a.m.

Take a Story Walk on the grounds of the Library, beginning May 1.  Sensory Story Time kicks off on the first Thursday of every month on May 2, giving all children ages 3-5 an opportunity to experience stories and objects that appeal to all of the senses. On May 4, we will have a special Grab & Go craft commemorating May the 4th Be With You. On Thursday, May 16, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m., kids in grades K-5 can sign up to Read to Thor. A licensed therapy dog, Thor is a cuddly and patient listener for kids who would like to practice reading out loud. Register to book your spot.

Saturday Programs for Kids meet on the last Saturday of the month, May 25 for Family Story Time (All Ages) at 11 a.m., and STEAM Corner, which is a different science, technology, engineering, art, and math activity each month for grades K-5, at 1 p.m. Kids in grades K-5 can put their creativity to use in Lego Master Builders, on the last Thursday of the month, May 30, at 4:30 p.m.

Teen Programs

Applications for Summer Volunteers open on May 1. Teens in grades 8-12 may apply to volunteer for this summer.

Collegebound teens looking for insights to the application process can attend the virtual program Creating a Compelling College Application on May 21 at 7 p.m. Registration is required. Registrants will receive an email with the Zoom link.

Early June Programs You Don’t Want to Miss

Save the dates for these events coming up early in June. On June 1, as part of the Pride Celebration there will be a movie showing of Gay Youth at 3:15 p.m. in the Library Community Room.

Shannon McMahon Bruchal, singer/songwriter and Easton Library Assistant will be playing an acoustic set on Sunday, June 2, from 12 to 2 p.m. on the Library patio. Then, from 3 to 5 p.m., the Library Board will host the Anne Lindquist Library Spirit Award Reception, honoring Linda Dollard for her many years of service to the Library.
