The town has cancelled the bonfire portion of the Lions Club of Easton’s Halloween Bonfire, Trunk or Treat and Costume Contest event on Thursday, Oct. 31 at Samuel Staples Elementary School due to the heightened the risk of brushfires across the state.
Easton is under an open burning ban due to a declaration from the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection, which has assessed “extreme fire danger in Connecticut” across all eight counties.” Residents are banned from using outdoor grills, firepits, and campfires.
The Trunk or Treat and Costume Contest portion of the event will go on. The Trunk or Treat event will be held at 5:30 p.m. and the costume contest will follow at 6 p.m.
