To the Editor:

As a former member and chairman (17 years, from late 1980s to 2010s) of the EMS Commission, I have first hand knowledge of the volunteers’ efforts over these years and the beginning of their EMT training program.

I would like to point out that the EMS was in a tent with an ambulance behind the current building that housed the Easton Volunteer Fire Department. Then the volunteer EMS moved into this 100-year-old building and it was immediately cited for multiple safety deficiencies. Despite years of effort this facility remains substandard and potentially dangerous.

I have enthusiastically followed the efforts to plan and fund the critically needed renovations to the EMS building. This project has been diligently studied, analyzed and prepared by volunteers and professionals and is cost-effective with multiple funding grants. However, we recently received two mailers that blatantly misrepresent the facts of the project and malign EMS members.

Please don’t give credit to these outrageous and negative exaggerations. Vote yes for this important project on Tuesday, Feb. 11 and support our town.
