The Easton Police Department needs help identifying two individuals they believe attempted to cash a check that had been “washed” and altered on two separate dates, Jan. 22, 2025 and Nov. 7, 2024.
“Check washing is when thieves steal checks from the mail and wash away the payee and amount,” according to Experian.com. “They can then sell the blank signed check or make it out to themselves and deposit the money into an account they control.”
Police released photographs of the suspected individuals. The public should call Detective Lyman at 203-268-4111 with any information and reference case #25-360 for the woman captured in the photograph on Jan. 22, 2025. Case number #24-5816 should be referenced for the man captured in the photograph on Nov. 7, 2024.
