MoneyInc.com has ranked Joel Barlow High School among the top 10 best public high schools in the state of Connecticut.

The publication ranked Barlow ninth out of 30 public schools based on its student-to-teacher ratio, diverse curriculum—including Advanced Placement courses and electives—college acceptance rates, and extracurricular activities.

“We just try to help kids go on their own journey,” said Mario Almeida, assistant superintendent and head of school. “I think it’s important to know what people’s journeys are, where they come from, where they are going, and how we can be part of helping them get to whatever their goals may be.”

Mike Santangeli, the school’s athletic director, thanked the community for playing a vital role in helping the school stay consistent and get recognized. Several of Barlow’s athletic teams have won state championships.

“I think the major piece for us is the community, the support from the community, and the type of students that are coming to our school,” said Santangeli. “The product speaks for itself. On top of that, we get the best teachers because they want to be in schools like this. Because we get a valued commitment from everyone across the board, we are able to get recognized and should continue to get recognized.”
