Easton deserves a Planning and Zoning Commission that is accountable to residents. I strongly urge Easton residents to vote in favor of transitioning from an appointed to an elected Planning and Zoning Commission. Land use decisions will shape the character of our town for generations. We need to ensure that our town is preserved while we smartly progress into the future. The important planning and zoning choices in the next decade will greatly impact the future of Easton.
Members of this commission should be comprised of officials chosen directly by the voters. Our current Planning and Zoning Commission is comprised of highly qualified and competent residents — many with an expertise in this area. They continue to serve our community well. I trust that voters — and the local political town committees — will continue to choose capable and skilled individuals to run for this important position.
An elected Planning and Zoning Commission ensures transparency, public trust, and greater responsiveness to community concerns. It is good governance. I believe in giving the people of Easton a more direct voice in the decisions that will define our future.
