The Wednesday Afternoon Musical Club will present its annual spring fundraiser for scholarships on Saturday, May 18 at 2 p.m. at Jesse Lee United Methodist Church. The third Saturday in May was established by President Harry Truman in 1950 as Armed Forces Day to honor active duty service men and women.

The concert, entitled “Home On Leave, Honoring our Armed Forces,” will feature John Philip Sousa marches, music of the ’30s and ’40s, and end with a patriotic sing-along of the anthems of the United States Armed Forces. A reception will follow.
Admission is free, with donations gratefully accepted for the scholarship program. The Wednesday Afternoon Musical Club sponsors the Greater Connecticut Youth Orchestra as well as Easton resident Phoebe Merrill, who is attending Belmont University in Nashville and studying music composition, business, and performing.

Established in 1898, the Wednesday Afternoon Musical Club has been providing concerts, outreach, and scholarships ever since. For more information, call 203-767-0064 or visit the website, www.wednesdayafternoonmusicclub.org.
