Blue skies and community spirt carried the day at Easton’s Memorial Day Parade to honor the United States Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country. Marchers, floats, tractors and emergency vehicles stepped off from the Easton Fire Station at 9:30 a.m.
The crowd watched and waved at friends and neighbors as they wound their way along the parade route to the Easton Town Hall. A ceremony honored those who gave their lives defending freedom.
Isabel Mariani sang the National Anthem and God Bless America, and local church leaders provide the opening invocation and closing benediction. After the ceremony, short remembrances were held at the Union and Aspetuck cemeteries.
The assembled crowd observed a salute to Easton veterans with a flag raising and rifle salute. The slideshow is courtesy of Shannon Calvert, who captured the traditional event for posterity.
