Trinity Episcopal Church will mark 300 years of perseverance on Saturday, Sept. 20, with an outdoor Son et Lumière spectacular, tracing its journey through fires and floods.

The 40-minute performance will shed light on the storied past of the Southport church, which lived to see the year 2025 against all odds.

“One thing that’s very clear to us is that God’s not done with us yet,” said Rector Matthew Lindeman.

The place of worship was burned down during the Revolutionary War, struck by a tornado in the late 1800s, and was devastated by flooding from Hurricane Sandy in 2012.

“We’ve rebuilt time and time again, and we continue to have a profound connection to our neighborhood,” Lindeman said.

The event will blend voice acting with theatrical lighting effects to create a spectacle of sound and light. Free and open to all ages, it will kick off on the church lawn at 9 p.m. More details about the event can be found on an event page the church has set up

According to Lindeman, the event was the result of a team effort. ““We have wonderful folks in our parish that have helped us give voice to the dramatic moments in our history.”

The church hopes to put on a performance that engages audiences, while offering something distinct from what you might see in a film or stage production.

Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs, as seating will be limited. In the event of poor weather, the performance will take place indoors.
