Braver Angels, a national nonprofit dedicated to reducing political polarization, will host its “Depolarizing Within” workshop at the Easton Public Library on Saturday, Oct. 18.
The free event will run from 1 to 4:30 p.m. in the library’s Community Room at 691 Morehouse Road. A 15-minute break with refreshments is included.
Braver Angels, founded to bridge the growing partisan divide in the United States, says Americans are more isolated than ever from those who hold opposing political views. a problem the group argues harms families, communities, and democracy itself.
The “Depolarizing Within” workshop encourages participants to reflect on their own attitudes toward the political “other” and develop constructive ways to engage across differences. Participants will learn how to discuss political issues without demonizing others and how to intervene when conversations among like-minded peers become dismissive or hostile toward the opposing side.
According to Braver Angels, workshop goals include:
- Becoming more aware of one’s own “inner polarizer.”
- Learning to criticize viewpoints without stereotyping or ridiculing those who disagree.
- Practicing how to speak up in polarizing conversations.
The program is open to everyone and is particularly suited for community groups, faith organizations, and schools seeking to reduce divisiveness. Attendees will complete self-assessment exercises and practice communication skills designed to promote respectful dialogue.
