The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for southern Connecticut, including Easton, from 3 a.m. Sunday through 6 p.m. Monday, with heavy snow expected across the region.

Forecasters say snow is expected to begin early Sunday and continue into Monday afternoon, with the heaviest snowfall likely late Sunday into Sunday night. Snowfall rates of up to 1 to 2 inches per hour are possible at times, which could lead to rapidly deteriorating road conditions and near-whiteout visibility.

Roads, bridges, and overpasses are expected to become slick and hazardous, and visibility may drop below a quarter mile due to falling and blowing snow, according to the weather service. Officials are urging residents to delay non-essential travel from Sunday into Monday, as conditions could become dangerous or impassable during peak snowfall.

Under town ordinance, all vehicles must be removed from public roadways during and after a snowstorm to allow crews to clear and treat roads.

Residents who must travel are advised to ensure vehicles are winterized and to carry emergency supplies, including booster cables, a flashlight, shovel, blankets, extra warm clothing, water, and a first aid kit.

Dangerous Cold Continues Ahead of Approaching Storm

Ahead of the incoming snowstorm, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect through noon Saturday, with overnight and early morning wind chills expected to dip as low as 14 degrees below zero, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters warn that frostbite and hypothermia can occur quickly when skin is exposed to these temperatures. Residents are urged to limit time outdoors, dress in layers, and ensure adequate heating inside homes before snow begins later Sunday.

The Easton Police Department advises residents to take precautions to protect people, pets, pipes, and plants, including keeping pets indoors, insulating exposed pipes, opening sink cabinets to allow warm air to circulate, and covering vulnerable outdoor plants.

Residents in need of immediate heating assistance or other emergency help related to the cold weather can contact the Easton Police Department at 203-268-4111. Connecticut residents can also dial 211 to access state services. For emergencies, call 911.
