Ukraine Aid International will welcome an official delegation of senior leaders from Ukraine’s Donetsk Oblast for a special visit to the United States.
The delegation will travel through Connecticut, New York and Washington, meeting with government officials, community leaders, partners and supporters and participating in public events and discussions. In Connecticut, the delegation will lead a talk at the Darien Library on Sept. 11 from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m entitled “Leading on the Frontline: Inside Ukraine’s Fight for Freedom.”
The delegation will be led by Vadym Filashkin, governor and head of the Donetsk Regional State Administration, and will include Sergii Kaliian, head of the Bakhmut District Administration, and Oleksii Vorobiov, head of the Siversk City Administration.
Ukraine Aid International invites the public to attend the event and hear directly from Ukrainian leaders whose communities have been among those most deeply affected by Russia’s war against Ukraine
Moderated by Marshall Mayer, co-founder and executive director of Ukraine Aid International, the program will feature a brief multimedia presentation, a moderated discussion and an audience Q&A.
Guests will hear firsthand about the challenges of governing communities only miles from active combat, including protecting civilians, maintaining essential services, responding to the destruction of critical infrastructure and preparing for Ukraine’s recovery.
The visit also highlights the growing network of direct partnerships between Connecticut and Ukrainian communities. Darien recently established a sister-city partnership with Sloviansk in Donetsk Oblast and has a Easton’s sister-city relationship with Sviatohirsk.
These sister-city relationships connect Connecticut communities directly with Ukrainian municipalities on the front lines and support continued cooperation, humanitarian assistance and long-term recovery.
