To the Editor:

I am writing to support the Board of Education’s requested 4.24% increase.

I have lived in Easton since 1993 and am currently retired and no longer have children in our schools. However,  I still fully support the proposed Board of Education increase. This increase not only covers our contractual obligations and health insurance increases for our current staff but will also reinstate necessary positions such as the HKMS media specialist.

During these uncertain times, our community, especially our children, need and deserve social, emotional, and academic stability. When our children return to school in the fall, it is crucial that they return to all of the familiar faces who have supported them throughout this crisis. Our schools are more than just a place where our community’s children learn math and reading. They also provide a safe, nurturing, and stable environment where our children can overcome the emotional trauma and academic losses caused by this pandemic.

My children received an excellent education in our school system which provided an outstanding foundation for their academic and professional pursuits. I think that it is imperative that we maintain this excellence for current and future generations. It is one of our most important legacies as a community and requires, at the very least, the ongoing investment of our resources.

I urge you to vote in favor of the requested Board of Education increase.
