To the Editor:
I am urging Easton voters to approve the sale of 18.6 acres of the South Park property to the Aspetuck Land Trust (ALT) for a payment in the amount of $470,000. One benefit of this sale will be that ALT will be responsible for cleaning up and maintaining the property.
ALT has been a very good neighbor to Easton by preserving more than 1,400 acres in our town including Trout Brook Valley. ALT regularly honors their commitment to Easton. For example on April 3, 2022, they made arrangements to have volunteers begin to clean up the South Park Avenue property. Myself and about 50 people spent six hours with shovels, rakes and wheelbarrows to remove old rugs, dozens of flower pots, lamps, pieces of plastic, etc. Many of the 50 volunteers were ALT members from neighboring towns who are committed to preserving sensitive properties. Much of this property is a mess and ALT will restore its beauty as they have maintained the beauty of their other properties.
Please vote “Yes” on May 3rd to sell the land to ALT so this property and its rich ecology are protected forever.
