Citing his long standing bipartisan leadership and his vote in helping to pass legislation to promote clean air, climate change and protect our state’s natural resources, the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters (CTLCV) has again named State Senator Tony Hwang an “Environmental Champion” in its 2022 Environmental Scorecard.
According to a press release issued today, the group praised Hwang’s initiatives. “Many of our pro-environment champions are responsible for the great accomplishments of this legislative session. These bills will become transformative policies for our state that will make the air we breathe cleaner, and ensure that we do our part to tackle climate change. Environmental champion lawmakers went above and beyond.”
An annual report by the CTLCV, the Environmental Scorecard rates legislators based on their voting record for key pieces of legislation. Hwang was named an “Environmental Champion” based on his longstanding pro-environment leadership that addressed issues ranging from wildlife and clean water to pesticides, land conservation and air quality.
In response, Hwang said, “I am incredibly honored to have again earned this recognition for legislative work that I love and believe from the Connecticut League of Conservation Voters, which is such a passionate and effective advocate for our environment,” adding, “Protecting and sustaining all aspects of the natural resources of our state will always be one of my priorities at the State Capitol.”
According to the press release, during the Connecticut General Assembly’s 2022 legislative session, Hwang supported the Connecticut Clean Air Act, an initiative to reduce pollution from transportation with a strong focus on equity and targeted investments. He also voted in favor of the Climate Change Mitigation Act, which will require Connecticut to supply 100% of its electricity from zero-carbon sources by 2040.
“A cleaner and healthier environment benefits everyone,” Hwang said. “That’s why we must continue our work to reduce pollution, protect natural resources like our beautiful Long Island Sound and waterways, and promote climate smart agricultural practices. Better air quality, cleaner water and reduced pollutants in our environment will benefit future generations. That’s why I believe that we must always be pushing toward these worthy environmental goals.”
