Voters on Tuesday went to Samuel Staples Elementary School to vote on the town of Easton and the Regional School District 9 budget, and a bonding proposal for improvements to Joel Barlow High School’s athletic fields and Nest building.
Following are the unofficial results of the May 2 referendum posted to the Town of Easton website:
1. Shall the Town of Easton appropriate the sum of $48,574,643 for the annual budget for the fiscal year July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024? (This includes Easton’s share of the Region 9 budget).
YES: 628 NO: 166
2. Shall the Regional School District No. 9, composed of the Towns of Easton and Redding, appropriate and authorize the expenditure of $24,811,367 as the operating budget of the district for the period of July 1, 2023 to June 30, 2024? ( Easton’s share is $13,256,713, and Redding’s share is $11, 554, 654).
YES: 615 NO: 179
3. Shall the Regional School District 9 appropriate $4,500,000 for costs related to Joel Barlow Stadium Nest Building and Field Improvements and authorize the issuance of bonds and notes in the same amount to finance the project?
YES: 579 NO: 215
