To the Editor:
For many years, Easton has relied on a bogeyman to reject affordable housing initiatives, namely, the assumption that more affordable housing necessarily means high-density housing. Not so.
What Easton should be doing is designing special-permit zoning to develop moderate-density, single-family cluster housing, served by community wells and septic systems on available parcels currently limited to three-acre zoned, low-density, single-family housing, a pattern of zoning that is rightly considered exclusionary.
Once that contribution to making housing more affordable is achieved, the town would then have the moral standing to seek an exemption from 8-30g affordable-housing, based on the fact that Easton is a watershed town.
