As spring approaches, Jessica Deutsch is stitching together a new and cozy community. She has organized a knitting and crocheting circle that meets every four weeks at a member’s home in Easton on Thursday nights.

Last week, six members joined Deutsch at Ann Adriani’s home to have their first evening of knitting and community building.

“It was very warm and welcoming,” said Deutsch, adding that during the first meeting everyone shared their passion and how they started knitting.

Deutsch is originally from Fairfield County but lived in New York City, where she discovered her love for knitting at an East Village class 10 years ago. Moving from the city to Easton inspired her to make new friends and connect with others who shared her interests. Although she no longer lives in the city, she wanted to recreate a sense of community in Easton that combined her passion for knitting and meeting new people.

Adriani said the night was “fantastic” and was attended by women of various ages. Even Adriani’s dog added a warm and welcoming touch to the evening.

“It was really a lovely group of ladies,” said Adriani. “I felt like I knew them forever.”

While knitting may seem challenging at first, Deutsch said, “It’s super accessible and not as hard as you think it would be. Once you learn the basics, it’s just a matter of practicing and not being afraid to fail.”

Beyond being a creative hobby, knitting can also offer personal growth and relaxation.

“It has given me the confidence to try new things and not be afraid to fail, as well as help me unplug and feel productive,” said Deutsch.
