My Ascension: A Film to Spread Hope and Stop Suicide

Parents and JBHS, HKMS and ECDS students are invited to watch a documentary, My Ascension, on Thursday, November 16 from 6:30pm-8:30pm at Joel Barlow High School’s auditorium, followed by a Q&A panel with local community clinicians/providers.
A suicide attempt left 16-year-old varsity cheerleader, Emma Benoit, paralyzed, but propelled her on a mission to use her painful experience to help others find hope, while shining more light on the suicide epidemic that is taking the lives of 20 young people every day in the United States.
My Ascension is a feature length documentary that chronicles Emma’s inspiring journey and quest to walk again. Watch the trailer HERE (www.myascension.us) for a 2 min. preview of the film.
This event is supported by the Joel Barlow High School PTSA, and due to the content of this documentary the school advises that only grades 6-12 participate and students in grades 6 or 7 must attend with a parent or guardian.
Why is suicide awareness and prevention important? Because we can all prevent suicide (https://988lifeline.org/how-we-can-all-prevent-suicide/) if we know the risk factors. Join us as we take action as a community to prevent suicides and work to save lives.
